U.S.A. World War II Killed In Action

Our main source of information for the location of graves relating to fallen American Airmen is The American Battle Monuments Commission database. Of the 405,399 Americans that lost their lives during World War II, there were 78,979 Missing in Action. Of the remainder the next of kin of 93,238 elected to have their loved ones buried at cemeteries run by the commission. Below is a listing by cemetery showing the number buried and the number that were declared Missing in Action in the vicinity of the cemetery. The ABMC database contains the names of those buried at their cemeteries, or listed as Missing in Action, buried or lost at sea. It does not contain the names of the 233,174 Americans returned to the United States for burial.
