REASON FOR LOSS:
Shot down by enemy ground fire while on a mission near the Wadi Akarit in southern Tunisia. Burial was made by enemy forces who placed a bent propeller blade at the head of his grave as a marker. The wreckage of his P-40 can been seen in the back ground of the above photo.

First buried in the western desert, later reinterred in the USA in his home town cemetery in Ohio.
