As the squadron joined on the bomber stream, 1LT Ed Fogarty reported that Ista was falling behind.
Although he radioed he was okay, he continued to trail farther behind. As the remainder of the group landed at
Metfield, he was last heard to call for a homing fix; he was 10 miles from the English coast.
However, no trace of him was ever found.
